For STAR WARS: Episode I – The Phantom Menace I animated the OOM Security Battle Droids that you see here roaming the hallways of the Trade Federation vessle Saak’ak. For the underwater sequences of Naboo there was an Opee sea killer, a Colo claw fish and the Sando aqua monster. My work was usually seen through the subs windshield, but George Lucas liked one shot so much (seen here) that he turned it into a close-up. And, yes, I animated Jar Jar Binks as well in the shots during the Pod Race sequence. I’m also visible in the viewing stand cheering Anakin Skywalker on. That was cool!
For Disney I animated John Smith’s buds Lon and Ben in Pocahontas, Djali the goat in The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Pegasus, Baby Pegasus and Baby Hercules in Hercules. I was assigned to the Pegasus character until the directors learned I had a reference at home – my newborn son Anders.
During the Don Bluth films animators were not assigned to characters like at Disney, so for example in the original The Land Before Time I animated Littlefoot, Cera, Petrie, Ducky, Spike, Littlefoot’s mom, a whole herd of Triceratops’ (oy), a family of duck-billed hadrosaurs and the berry chasing little pterodactyls. I animated several characters in All Dogs Go To Heaven seen here as well. The only exceptions would be the human characters in the background. Even though hired as an animator, I offered to clean up the animator’s drawings for An American Tail. Any scenes shown here reflect that.
